And the idea is fairly simple.

I’ve sometimes found myself very productive late in the night; other days more productive in the morning, and some days, I am not productive at all.

I think of productivity as efficiency — and I usually ask myself, at the end of the workday, what was the output? And am I happy with it?

You’ve probably heard it before, wake up at 4 AM, take a cold shower, hit the gym, plan what needs to be done, and let the day start. Sounds impressive?

In reality, It will not work for everyone; in fact, I think a tiny portion of people will actually find themselves getting more things done and begin productive by following that routine.

Morning routine, planning, and structure are a factor but not enough to be productive.

Inspiration before plans

A daily routine and a good calendar plan are essential to feeling in control and will prompt less stress about accomplishing your to-do list, knowing that you will have enough time to block out for each important task.

But one thing that rarely gets mentioned is the word inspiration; some think about inspiration as something you get whenever you want — but in fact, inspiration comes to you when it wants and will leave you at some point.

When you are learning and exploring things, you will suddenly feel inspired to do something; it’s at that point you should leave everything possible to leave aside and work on that thing you feel inspired about.

It’s what an incredible book taught me in its last chapter.

We all have ideas. Ideas are immortal. They last forever. What dosen’t last forever is inspiration. Inspiration is a now thing. If it grabs you, grab it right back and put it to work

ReWork

Inspiration is a productivity multiplier, an automatic motivator that will make you produce great work.

Bottom line

Shifting the mindset from planning to inspiration will give you a free productivity boost; I’ve tried to shift my mindset from wanting to do something at a planned moment; to when I feel most inspired to do it, and it has helped me do more productive work, with less time spent.
